Learning the craft of Screenwriting

Have you always wanted to write a screenplay? Or felt you had a great story to tell that would make a great feature film, tv pilot or short?

 

As a screenwriter who has written over 20 screen and teleplays, I know what it takes to go from a good idea to a well-crafted screenplay. And I am excited to share with you all that I have learned!

 

In this remote 8-WEEK CLASS you will learn how screenplays work and the steps to creating a First Draft of a screen or teleplay. The class will focus on getting you to the crucial First Act (25 – 35 pages) of your script and setting you up for success in completing your draft.

 

You will learn how to create three dimensional characters, engaging plot structure and compelling dialogue.

 

COURSE OUTLINE:

  • Week 1 & 2 – Introduction to the craft of Screenwriting.

    • Screenplay architecture overview

    • Essential building blocks – Story and Character

  • Week 3 - Treatment – Describe the story you want to tell in 2 pages. 

    • Developing World, Plot & Theme

  • Week 4 & 5 - Outline – Create a detailed map of how your story will be structured. 

    • Mapping Act breaks, Subplots, and Character

  • Week 6 & 7 - First Act – Write the First Act of your screenplay.

    • Scene Element Breakdown

    • Dialogue as Voice

    • Character motivation

    • Propelling the action

  • Week 8 – The Finish Line – Steps to successfully complete your script.

    • Writing Motivation

    • Rewriting

 

The class Includes TWO ONE-HOUR PRIVATE consultations during the course.
